environmental engineering
Byzak’s experience of aquatic environments and sensitive sites such as SSSIs and AONBs means its civil, mechanical and electrical capabilities can be extended to all types of environmental protection and improvement schemes. These include:
● Flood Defences
● Renewable Energy
● Waste Management
● Specialist Treatment Systems
● Sensitive Environments Expertise
● Sustainable Solutions
Byzak carries out flood alleviation and defence projects for the Environment Agency and for local authorities in Scotland. A Byzak project for a flood control navigable lock in the Ouseburn river in central Newcastle is integral to the urban regeneration of an industrial heritage area. A new test bed facility, constructed for NaREC (New and Renewable Energy Centre), is believed to be the largest of its kind in the world, accommodating blades up to 70m in length.
Byzak undertakes minewater treatment schemes for the Coal Authority, treating ocherous minewaters which are a legacy of deep coal mining activities. Reed beds used for the treatment process are an example of a sustainable solution which Byzak has previously provided on wastewater treatment projects. A recent pilot project for the Scottish Executive provided measures for controlling diffuse pollution from 48 dispersed farms which was harming the water quality of watercourses, required working closely with farmers and the local community.
